Today at 11:17 a.m. ET, we have a New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius! You can learn more about the meaning of the eclipse in the December 14th MoonLetter; these are summaries of what themes you can expect to be highlighted by the eclipse, based on your rising sign. Keep in mind that eclipses bring change that happens gradually, usually within a span of six months.
Aries ♈︎
This eclipse is happening in your 9th house. Themes of personal beliefs and spirituality, higher learning, and foreign travel and languages will be highlighted. You may decide to pursue an advanced degree or professional course at this time. Trine to Mars in your 1st house, you may become well known for whatever area of study you engage with. Alternatively, a new learning or travel opportunity may present itself at the cost of uprooting yourself to be among people who do not know you.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your Aquarius 11th house of friends and community. You have an opportunity to join or build an impressive network of friends with this aspect. You may meet someone who can help you access different groups of people.
Taurus ♉︎
Your 8th house—which rules what we owe to others, including topics like intimacy, a partner’s money, debt, and mortality—is emphasized by this eclipse. It may bring new beginnings and drastic changes to a financial situation, but because of a trine to Mars (conflict) in your 12th house of self-destruction and imprisonment, the eclipse could be accompanied by heavy, emotional conversations or even outbursts.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your Aquarius 10th house of career of public reputation. This transit prompts you to find new ways of making money or being known in the world, and could very well represent a new job opportunity.
Gemini ♊︎
This eclipse is happening in your 7th house of partnership, marriage, and relating to others. You are on the precipice of a new relationship, or a new phase of an existing partnership, with a significant figure in your life. Mars in your 11th house of friends and communities may have given you courage to stand up to anyone who has been taking you for granted. If your more assertive existence is threatening someone, it may be time to reassess their role in your life.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your Aquarius 9th house of higher learning, personal beliefs, and foreign languages and culture. This could be a very fruitful time for beginning a new course of study on almost any topic; those who do ride the wave of this aspect may end up as inventors and innovators in their fields.
Cancer ♋︎
This eclipse is happening in your 6th house of daily routines, work, and service. This is also a house associated with health. You may be confronted with news that causes you to change your daily habits, particularly around health. Mars in Aries transiting (and retrograding) through your 10th house since May has almost certainly changed your career situation; has the stress caused some health issues? Or perhaps you’re feeling more healthy than ever, motivated to put more time and energy into maintaining your health.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your Aquarius 8th house of intimacy, partner’s money, and mortality. These are topics united in that they often cause anxiety. You may be uncovering some deep news from the psyche with this rare aspect, or reliving past anxieties you’d normally sweep under the rug. Take time to open up to loved ones and share your thoughts; relating to others is a hidden benefit to processing past trauma.
Leo ♌︎
This eclipse is happening in your 5th house of pleasure, creativity, sex, and children. This could represent a new beginning for your children, if you have them, or perhaps even learning of a surprise pregnancy! Alternatively, a new creative project may reveal itself in a dramatic fashion, perhaps as a way of processing emotional turmoil. Mars is trining the eclipse from your 9th house of higher learning, personal philosophies, and foreign language and travel. Grappling with those topics are likely to yield many ideas for passion projects.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your Aquarius 7th house of partnership and marriage. Jupiter is the new where Saturn is the old, the progressive to the conservative. You may be grappling with tradition in the context of relationships and trying to construct a new way of existing within them.
Virgo ♍︎
This eclipse is happening in your 4th house of home, family, property, and roots. Sensing a big change in our foundations is never comfortable, but you’re being called to make a new start in this area. Perhaps you’re making decisions based on fear, which would make sense with Mars in your 8th house of mortality, debts, and intimacy; the topics of this house often inspire anxiety. If you must uproot and move, if you must confront a family member, if you must address an issue with your property, it will come to a head now.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your Aquarius 6th house of routines, labor, and health. You may get news about an illness or injury around this transit. New or innovative treatments are favored, if available. Alternatively, you might be innovating in the context of your work, and this conjunction would mark a good time to put your creations to the test.
Libra ♎︎
This eclipse is happening in your 3rd house of communication, transportation, neighbors, siblings, and learning. You may feel quite scattered as a result of this house being activated. Because of Mercury’s bad condition during the eclipse, any miscommunications or travel snafus might hit Libra risings the hardest. Mars is in your 7th house of relationships making an aspect to this lunation; this promises fights or disagreements with friends or loved ones. Just note that eclipses are highly agitating and once the dust settles, the lesson is really about how you communicate your needs and wants.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your Aquarius 5th house of children, creativity, and pleasure. This could bring brilliant new ideas or a new romance into your life. If you have children, this could also signify big news for them.
Scorpio ♏︎
Your 2nd house of finances, resources, and what you value is highlighted by this eclipse. Perhaps this heralds new opportunities for wealth, especially coming from small measures you’ve been taking every day since Mars is trining the eclipse from the 6th house of routines and labor. However, the 6th house is also the house of illness, so it’s also possible that you’ve been working yourself sick in the interest of growing wealth or resources.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your Aquarius 4th house of home, family, and property. This is a time you might change your mind about where you want to live—location, sure, but also the type of abode best suited to your lifestyle. Look for inspiration or clues around this special date!
Sagittarius ♐︎
This eclipse falls in your 1st house of self, personality, and physical appearance. You may experience real changes to how you conceive of yourself and/or how other people see you over the next several months. Eclipses in the first house can feel destabilizing even if necessary, like a surprise coming out party. May be awkward, may be exhilarating, we shall see. The eclipse receives a trine from Mars in house of children, pleasure, and creativity, pointing to sources of conflict and review in the past 6 months, which may be inspiring your transformation.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your Aquarius 3rd house of communication, travel, learning, neighbors, and siblings. You have a chance to really get to know your neighborhood during this time (in a socially distant way, of course)—building or joining communities online is also highly favored by this transit.
Capricorn ♑︎
Your 12th house of subconscious, self-destruction, and imprisonment is where the eclipse falls in your chart. This could bring a powerful moment of catharsis, revelations from the psyche, or the uncovering of secrets. Receiving a trine from Mars in the 4th house, the theme of any revelations will have to do with family or property.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will meet in your Aquarius 2nd house of finances, resources, and what you value. Look for new opportunities to invest your resources where it can make a difference. While Saturn may limit gain in the short term, there is an enduring wealth possible from taking advantage of this special event.
Aquarius ♒︎
Your 11th house of friends, networks, and communities is activated by the solar eclipse. Friend groups may undergo some dramatic changes in the next several months. It’s the end of an era; maybe a close knit group is breaking apart. Mars trines the eclipse from the 3rd house, further indicating fights among peers and challenging conversations.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your 1st house of self, personality, and physical appearances. You have an opportunity to remake yourself, but it is key that you’re not putting on a show. Authenticity is required for this “new you” to go the distance.
Pisces ♓︎
This eclipse is happening in your 10th house of career and public reputation, fomenting dramatic events that may cause you to change direction in this area of life. The lunation receives a trine from Mars in the 2nd house, pointing to some financial consequences. A new job or creative project could be on the way; this opportunity could be fruitful even if an immediate pay cut is required.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction in your Aquarius 12th house of imprisonment and self-destruction. While the 12th is a difficult house, it’s Saturn’s joy, and this great conjunction has the potential to ring in a new era of self-discipline for you.

My rising sign is in Scorpio and my spouse’s is in Pisces. Your take on both of these couldn’t be more accurate! We’re in the process of moving to a house we just bought, I am in the process of starting a new work-life integration schedule next week, and he just took a very critical step forward, after years of planning and deliberation, to pursue a huge career change. So, you see, these thematic summaries for our rising signs are spot on! Thanks, Kristen!
That’s amazing! It’s so rewarding to see transits in the sky echoed in our lives like this, thank you for sharing 🙂
